MAIN PAPANUWENWE THEME
The village square. Villagers, including LLAMAS and CHIHUAHUAS, walk across the stage at random, greeting each other. A song starts. The greetings continue through the first set of harmonies.
JUANITA : Any ponchos, any ponchos, any ponchos for darning?
MANUEL : Any yak’s milk for the children? Five bits for a bucket...
SOMBRERO JOE : Buy yer sombreros from Sombrero Joe
Elliptical headwear from Old Mexico...
(repeat in a round)
Then they stop. Turn to the front. Start to sing.
ALL : We are the simple people of Papanuwenwe town
We work the ground
with trowels
And sweat to tear food from the land
We are the simple people of Papanuwenwe town
And though we frown
sometimes
There’s always a song in our hearts
‘Cause every child here has a song
Every man is big and strong
And we know it won’t be long
Before a leader comes along
To lead us on
From the hills of Papanuwenwe
Through the high times and the low
We drag our meagre existence
From the soil of Nyemen Y Cristo
There are crops that we must harvest
And by hand the seeds we sow
In our town of Papanuwenwe
In the valley of Nyemen Y Cristo
But over us a cloud of depression
We’re subjects of oppression
An evil Don subdues our town
And taxes us into the ground
He’s corrupt and he’s vicious
Aggressive and malicious
One day we’ll run him from this town
But for now we merely toil and frown
From the hills of Papanuwenwe
Through the high times and the low
We drag our meagre existence
From the soil of Nyemen Y Cristo
And we work and we suffer
But we’ll strike the final blow
And the Don will hear our fury
Through the valley of Nyemen Y Cristo
Through the valley
Of Nyemen Y Cristo

THERE'S A PRESSING LITTLE MATTER
DON DAVROS : Gomez, come out here!
GOMEZ : Who is it?
DON DAVROS : I said come out here!
GOMEZ : Who’s there?
DON DAVROS : It is I - Don Davros...
GOMEZ : Don Davros! Oh, my goodness! I’m coming, sir! (aside) What can he be doing here? Does he plan to raise our taxes yet again?
DON DAVROS : Mayor Gomez!!!
GOMEZ comes out, he is putting on his mayoral chain.
GOMEZ : Just putting on my chain, sir...
DON DAVROS : (as an aside) I could see you all in them...
GOMEZ : Oh, Don Davros, what an honour it is to have you here, at our humble home! What can I do for -
DON DAVROS : Shut up!
There’s a pressing little matter
That I must discuss with you
I’m not getting any younger, as you know...
GOMEZ : You look but in your mid twenties, sir!
DON DAVROS : And one’s life begins escaping
Well, it sets a man to thinking
Something’s missing, and it’s making me feel low.
GOMEZ : But what could a man such as you need?
DON DAVROS : I believe you have a daughter
Yes, I hear her name is Chica
And a fine girl she is growing up to be
GOMEZ : That’s true...
DON DAVROS : And so without delay
I have come to you today
To say
I wish her to leave here and marry me
There’s still lead in this old pencil
Well, enough to draw a stencil
Of an heir that she will surely bear to me
It’s not asking too much, is it ?
To own something so exquisite
As your daughter, I am sure you must agree
GOMEZ : But... but... what if she doesn’t want to?
DON DAVROS : (slimey and insinuous) Gooooomezzzz...
I’m not an evil man, you know
But this frustration in me grows
Quite frankly I can’t be sure if I could stop it if it blows
I’ve really no desire
To, say, make your taxes higher
But in honesty, that’s just the way it goes...
Something tells me the gentle touch
Of a woman’s hands around my house
Might just be what I need to ease financial machinations
And I’m sure the father of the one
Who helps with this conundrum
Would be offered substantial remunerations
He holds out a gold coin to GOMEZ.
Do we have... an agreement ?
GOMEZ : (torn) Yes. She will be yours. I will tell her myself. |

I just thought id say that on the 8th verse in the main theme of pap that the verse has been changed to (and correct me if i'm wrong)
in the land of the golden cactus
where the cactus's are gold
the bear it flows like honey
and the milk stays nice and cold
sorry but some people were asking for it to be put on the board. |

Yes, that's fine - we made the change for the Broken Biscuits show because that's such a great verse and only appears in the end version of that song.
But let's stop calling it "Pap", eh? I blame that Corboz - he started it! |
